It was always Alec’s intention to make a recording at some stage but somehow he never got round to it until in 2005 his wife Pearl bought him time in a recording studio as a Christmas present. The result is this album ‘A LONG TIME COMING’

The line up is:
Ian Riley Keyboards and backing vocals.
Ian, a native of Nuneaton was originally a
professional musician in Scotland, but then moved
south to Bournemouth to combine playing with
teaching. He played for many years with the resident
band at the Pavilion Bournemouth. Ian was a founder
member of ‘MIRAGE’ and has known and played with
Alec for more than 25 years.
Derek Power Saxophone.
Derek arrived in Bournemouth from London and
became an original member of the ‘PALMER JAMES
GROUP’ and stayed until that band folded. He then
went on to play with several bands in the Bournemouth area.
Although sadly no longer with us, he was a great friend and is heard
playing some really good sax on this album.
Peter Dorey Bass Guitar and backing vocals.
Peter joined ‘MIRAGE’in 1988. When that outfit
decided to call it a day, Peter went his own way
playing solo piano as well as bass in bands of his
own. He still helps out on bass in various bands with Alec.
Richard Coplan Drums.
Richard, a former professional drummer with the
‘London Tijuana Band’ and various Bournemouth
based bands now plays occasionally with the
‘Shaftesbury Swing Band’. He is also in a
band called ‘Jamjar’ with his wife Judy who plays
piano, cello and saxophone.
Dave Peacock Guitar
Dave has been playing guitar for over 40 years. He
started when he was fifteen playing rock, folk and
blues on acoustic guitar. In the early seventies he took
up a Guildhall Part Time studies course in classical
guitar. He then had a break then until 1990 when he
took up playing blues, rock and pop. This was followed
by a move into jazz in the mid nineties. He also has
taught guitar for ILEA and private students.
The original idea was to record the CD just for family and friends, but when it was discovered that to make a professional job of it would involve pressing a minimum of 500 copies, it was decided that it would be a good idea to try and sell the CD and make some money for charity.
Both Alec’s mother and father had been volunteer helpers at the local Multiple Sclerosis society for several years of their life, and so it was decided to continue the family tradition, this time by raising funds from sales of this CD.
So far sales, other than the UK, have been as far away as the USA, Canada, Philippines, Jamaica, Hong Kong, Finland and the Bahamas.
